My Baby Got Her Wings

images (6)

My baby got her wings today,
But we never got to say goodbye,
Heartbreak erases child’s play,
Hopes and dreams become butterflies,
Arising from the tears we cry.

Mommy and Daddy miss you baby,
And struggle with the reason why,
Your wings God gave came too quickly,
When life was shattered senselessly.

Yet, you are more than just a memory,
Of the giggles and smiles you left behind,
Because the love we lost is now fulfilled,
In the arms of God – our only peace of mind.

  1. I don’t think anyone but a parent can even begin to comprehend what the parents of these children are going through right now, & speaking as someone who’s not a parent, I can’t either. How many of them must be wondering, right now, where their innocent children are, especially those who might not have been brought up Christian. The only comfort, encouragement, & assurance we can give them, are from God’s Holy Word. Although everyone, including babies, have inherited original sin (Psalm 51:5), unlike adults, they are ‘innocent’ (lit: ‘free from judgment’)(Psalm 106:37-38), because they have not reached an ‘age of accountability’ (Isaiah 7:15) & cannot reject Christ, which results in damnation (Mark 16:15b; John 3:18b). So, when they were savagely taken from this dangerous, sinful world, they went straight into the safe & sinless of arms of God, just as King David’s 7-day-old son was, before he had the chance to be circumcised (2 Samuel 12:18-23). As Jesus reminds us, “For the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these” (Matthew 19:14), referring to little children, as he reminds all of us that if we wish to enter the kingdom of Heaven, & be reunited with those little angels, we can have that assurance that WILL happen, if we ‘humble ourselves as a child,’ otherwise, if we are not ‘converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven’ (Matthew 18:3-4). We must share that ‘child-like’ faith – free from any doubt or human influence, & accept the free gift of faith (Ephesians 2:8-9), that Jesus’ work on the cross was ‘finished’ (John 19:30). So, as the apostle Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians 4:18 ‘comfort one another with these words’:

“And they were bringing even their babies to Him so that He would touch them, but when the disciples saw it, they began rebuking them. But Jesus called for them, saying, ‘Permit the children to come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.'” (Luke 18:15-17)

So, where are those children — ALL those children? ALL of them are in Heaven with Jesus, right now, because ‘the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.'”

May all those who have been affected by this horrid tragedy be comforted in knowing that their children are safe in the arms of God, awaiting their reunion with their parents & family. Please keep them in your prayers as well. Amen. In Christ, Steve.

  2. Dear Chris,

I was in Ethiopia on a quick trip to help a friend work on a school which is planned to be built for 2 400 children and then to host the opening of the Food Production Center for which the Lord purposed to feed many, many poor and destitute children of this nation, ………..when the news broke of this very sad event.

Thank you for continuing to write and invest your gift into the Kingdom like this! Thank you for such encouragement and purposeful writing! We have been so aware of the world’s suffering – especially its children – layers to that, but especially when I visited the children’s homes again and found toooooo many newborns who were rejected and abandoned – this is now the government’s “ONLY CRITERIA” for a child to be in an Ethiopian orphanage…….. and yes, these spaces are not big enough…….. oh, my heart aches – how can HE forgive us?

We miss you – we enjoy and appreciate your writings, delight in it and thank the Father for your gift!

We have now moved out of the dorm, into a small cottage in the Black Forest Mountain here in Kandern, Germany where we help our children through High School. We are waiting on the Father’s assignment after June 2013 – unsure if are to stay or depart, leave our children behind or take them along, we are in a still and quiet season now as He called us to come away into stillness and rest…….. much needed!

More later – working on a newsletter, just wanted to say HI!

Blessings to you and your family! Stephne for our family

    • So good to hear from you Stephne! Your work for the Food Production Center and Harry with TeachBeyond, is so inspiring. The value of the hope you both add within God’s good grace is simply a marvel. I too grieve for the indignities to children but take hope for Christ has overcome this cruel world. Where ever you and Harry are led, please know you carry my heart. His Peace, Chris
